About Google review links

A Google review link is a direct shortcut to the "leave a review" form for your business on Google. Instead of asking customers to find you on Maps, scroll past your listing, and tap through to write a review, you give them a single link (or QR code) that drops them straight into the form.

This tool finds your business via the Google Places API and constructs the official search.google.com/local/writereview URL using your Place ID - the same link Google itself uses internally. It's the friction-removal step that turns "I'll review them later" (which never happens) into a 30-second action.

Pair the link with a QR code on receipts, table tents, or thank-you cards so customers can review from their seat. With a free Hovercode account, you can also add your branding to the QR and track scans.

Frequently asked questions

Will customers need a Google account to leave a review?
Yes - Google requires a signed-in account to attribute the review. Most people are already signed in to Gmail or YouTube on their phone, so this isn't usually a barrier.
Does it work for any business?
Any business with a verified Google Business Profile listing. If your business doesn't show up in the search, claim and verify your listing in Google Business Profile first.
Is it against Google's policy to ask for reviews?
No - Google explicitly encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews. What's not allowed is offering incentives in exchange for a review, or selectively asking only happy customers (a practice called "review-gating").
What's the best way to use the QR code?
Anywhere a customer is in a positive moment and has their phone out - the bottom of the receipt, on a table tent, on a thank-you card, in a follow-up email. Friction is the enemy of reviews; the QR removes it.
Can I track how many people scanned the QR?
Not with the static QR generated here - it points directly at Google with no tracking layer. With a free Hovercode account, you get a dynamic QR with built-in scan analytics.
