I scanned my QR code and it took me to the Hovercode website — what's wrong?
If scanning your QR code lands on Hovercode's website instead of your intended page, the most common cause is that the QR code has been deleted.
Why this happens
Most hovercode QR codes are dynamic QR codes. That means the code itself doesn't contain your link directly - it contains a redirect link (something like scango.to/w7eh29, or your own custom domain if you've set one up). When someone scans the code, they're sent to that redirect link first, which then forwards them on to whatever destination you've set for it.
If the QR code has been deleted, that redirect link no longer has a destination to forward to, so scanning it falls back to Hovercode's own website instead of your page.
How to fix it
- Check whether the QR code still exists in your Hovercode account.
- If it's missing, it's likely been deleted. See our guide on how to recover a QR code to restore it.
- Once the QR code is recovered, scan it again to confirm it now goes to the right place.
Other things to double check
If the QR code hasn't been deleted, it's worth checking these too:
- Make sure the scan destination is set and saved. Open the QR code, check the scan destination field, and confirm your link (or PDF, vCard, app store link, etc.) is entered. Save again if needed.
- Make sure you're scanning the right code. If you've created multiple QR codes while testing, it's easy to scan an older or unfinished one by mistake.
Still stuck?
If you've checked all of the above and your QR code still redirects to Hovercode's website instead of your destination, please contact support and send us a scannable image of the QR code in question so we can look into it directly.
